Brush Collection & Chipping 

 

The Department of Public Works operates a Fall (October) and Spring (April, May & June) Brush Collection Program for City of Elkhorn residents.  This operation is staffed by the DPW personnel who collect brush placed at the curb by Elkhorn residents during their scheduled collection week as follows:

                                                            October 7 & October 21, 2025:    East of Wisconsin St.

                                                            October 14 & October 28, 2025:  West of Wisconsin St.

The City’s Department of Public Works personnel have from Tuesday thru Friday of each week to collect brush. DPW personnel will go thru the route once during your scheduled collection week. Do not place brush in the terrace after the DPW personnel have gone by your residence.

RESIDENT GUIDELINES: 

*No vines, rakings or roots may be brought to the City’s Compost Site

 (yard waste drop-off)

*DO NOT co-mingle leaves with brush. 

*Place cut ends, facing direction of traveling traffic. 

*Maximum Length - No larger than 12 feet in length

*Maximum Diameter – No larger than 9 inches in diameter 

*All brush must be placed on the terrace by 7 a.m. on Tuesday of your brush collection week, but no earlier than the Saturday before your brush collection week. 

 

DPW personnel will begin the route on Tuesday morning of your scheduled collection week.  All brush must be placed on the terrace no later 7 a.m. on Tuesday of your scheduled brush collection week.  DPW personnel will collect property disposed of brush throughout  the week until the route is completed and collection may end prior to Friday.

Please do not place brush to the curb after Tuesday am of your brush collection week. DPW personnel will not return to residences for additional collections within the same week. Residents can split their brush collection into their two separate collection dates. Maximum chipping time allowed is limited to 10 minutes per property.

Parked cars must not block brush piles. If you hire a contractor for tree trimming or tree removal work, the contractor must take away and dispose of all debris.  DPW personnel will only collect brush and branches and will not chip whole trees or tree trunks.

Outside the brush collection program, residents can drop off brush at the City’s Compost site (yard-waste drop-off) located next to the City’s DPW garage facility, 401 East Centralia St., at the south end of Getzen St.

Brush and leaf burning is not allowed within the City of Elkhorn.
